About Kelly’s Trust for Sick Children
Kelly’s Trust was set up to help sick children living in Kent and East Sussex. Assistance is given for respite care, travelling expenses to and from hospital and other special needs. The charity currently works closely with the Demelza House Children’s Hospice and, in the past, Ellenor Children’s Hospice Care and KCC Social Services Child Care Teams.
Kelly was a local girl from Tonbridge, and in February 1994, when she was 15, she was diagnosed with leukaemia. She bravely endured three years of intensive treatment, and it was during that time that she decided to become a nurse to look after children with life-threatening illnesses. Tragically, she lost her own battle against cancer in May 1997 – she was 18.
The Trust was set up in her memory and, after over 25 years, is now sadly winding down and no longer accepting any new requests for assistance.
Alex, Myra and the trustees would like to thank everyone who has supported the charity, particularly those who have raised many thousands of pounds running marathons and participating in sporting events, or fundraising in many other imaginative ways.
